What is LEGO®WORLD?
LEGO®WORLD is a six-day public event, held at the IJsselhallen in Zwolle, The Netherlands, during the autumn school holidays. This year 45000 visitors are expected!
LEGO®WORLD is organised by In-store & Events LEGO Nederland B.V. and Libéma Exhibitions bv (IJsselhallen).
Within this organisation De Bouwsteen (the Dutch LEGO Users Group), Jetix (Television Channel), Axitraxi (attractions) and Intertoys (Toy store) are actively participating.
- De Bouwsteen will fill up part of the total area and will take care of the volunteers.
- Jetix will provide performances by various artists and TV commercials.
- Axitraxi will provide attractions for children like bounce houses,
- Intertoys will take care of the pre-sale of the tickets and runs the LEGO shop during the event.
- Other things are taken care of by LEGO or the IJsselhallen.

Participant?
You can participate in LEGO®WORLD as exhibitor and/or as volunteer for a single day, a few days or all days.

How did LEGO®WORLD originate?
LEGO®WORLD was originate in 2001 after a miniature model show. For this show De Bouwsteen was asked by In-store Shows & Events LEGO Benelux B.V. to fill part of the space available for LEGO (100m2 of the available 682m2 ) with a number of MOC’s (My Own Creation). This show was held on April 28 & 29 2001, and especially the LEGO section was very welcomed by the public. After the show, while at the bar, the idea evolved between LEGO and the IJsselhallen, to organise a show with ONLY LEGO ..... and LEGO®WORLD was born.
In a VERY short period LEGO®WORLD 2001 was organised, De Bouwsteen was asked to participate in the organisation. The Hanzezaal (A hall with a floor area of 682 m2) became available for De Bouwsteen. Within a short period we managed to fill up this space with contributions of our members. LEGO®WORLD 2001 became a big hit, 27.500 visitors in just 4 days (October 20-23), people even had to be send home, because there was just no more space for more visitors. De Bouwsteen got VERY good critics from the visitors (and this stayed also during the other years!). The total floor area was 7000 m2 of which De Bouwsteen occupied about 700 m2.
LEGO®WORLD 2002 has become even bigger, despite the late moment that the green light was given for this event. De Bouwsteen could now occupy 1600 m2. Also LDraw, a (world)organisation from the United States, was present. The total floor area of the event was this time 14000 m2. During the five days of this event (October 18-22) more than 35.000 people visited.
LEGO®WORLD 2003 was a breakthrough with respect to the recognition by Billund, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen (KKK) has seen with his own eyes what LEGO®WORLD is. At this moment LEGO recognizes that LEGO-clubs and (A)FOL’s (adult fan of LEGO) have an added value to the world of LEGO. During five days (October 17-21) 40.000 visitors were counted. The floor area was 18.000m2 of which De Bouwsteen occupied 3000m2. In total 197 volunteers participated! (either as exhibitor or as volunteer, both from the Netherlands as from abroad)
LEGO®WORLD 2004 More than 43.000 visitors in 6 days (October 21-26), over 20.000m2 LEGO-fun, of which 3000m2 occupied by De Bouwsteen. In total 268 people have helped as volunteer! (as exhibitor or as volunteer, both from the Netherlands as well as from abroad)
A DVD of this event (100 minutes) has become available, if you are interested contact the board of De Bouwsteen.

LEGOWORLD 2005: alle records were broken: 48.000 visitors in 6 days and KKK has visited us, with a special ateention for the volunteers.

LEGO®WORLD 2006 is coming soon. What will there be this time? A bigger floor area? Even nicer? More visitors? Of course, but this is only possible with your help! Please register and show all the beautiful LEGO you have. For us it that you show that you like your hobby and show what you have, even if it small.
LEGO®WORLD 2006 will concentrate this year on improving the quality of the lunch aerea. We will move over to the old ijsselbar completely on the other side of the ijsselhallen with our own front door and toilets.

Since 2001 we have already welcomed many foreigners, which we really appreciate. In 2001 we had 6 participants from Italy and 2 from Germany. In 2002, also people from Belgium and England were present, in 2003/2004 there were participants also from France, Portugal, Brasil, Canada and the USA, in total more than 40 participants, a real LEGO®WORLD!

What do you get in return?

This event has all aspects appreciated by (A)FOL’s.
It is fun, it has a community atmosphere, and all aspects of the hobby are discussed among each other .......... and more.

- A special moment has been scheduled where you can shop in the Intertoys-toy shop before the visitors enter or after the visitors have left.
- During the event there are variety of deals.
- Discount prices for staying overnight and diners (buffet)
- Also, you can get all free-gifts for the visitors given by LEGO.

For whom?
For all AFOL’s age 16 and older.
#For non-members of De Bouwsteen and foreigners it is also possible to participate. Please contact the board of the Bouwsteen for the additional regulations.
Children under 16 can participate as exhibitor when under supervision of a parent/supervisor. They cannnot participate as volunteer.
Confirmation is given after agreement of LEGO and the IJsselhallen. After agreement De Bouwsteen will be the coordinator.

All registrations are on a personal basis and should be sent to the address given on the registration form. The registration form can be downloaded on De Bouwsteensite.

Should I be present all days?
Of course we would like to see you all days at LEGO®WORLD. If that is not possible, mention at the registration form which days you can be present.
When you cannot be present as exhibitor every day, we can arrange that your job, that is giving information on your sets/MOCs, will be taken over by others (volunteers). In this way your work can always be shown to the public.

What is an exhibitor and/or volunteer at LEGO ®WORLD?
An exhibitor is a participant that shows (part of) his LEGO collection (also a exhibitor is a volunteer)
Exhibitors will stay in De Bouwsteenhall and will also help with a number of small tasks see *2).
A volunteer LEGO®WORLD has different tasks in the LEGO hall see *1).

With what?
Basically everything related to LEGO.
- Your collection, this can be specific for example Space, but also wooden LEGO sets, etc.
- Your own creations. Big, small, with or without detail, simple or complex .... it is your creation. This does not mean you should have a MASTER model, no, it is like KKK mentioned ... inspire someone else with your work, each creation is the masterpiece of its owner!
From young to old, from beginner to expert, from simple to complex, from small to big: It is yours!
- Demonstrations, like LDraw, Mindstorms or “building tips”
- Models that are being build.
- Moonbase. Using the moonbase standards different people build a space-creation on a building plate, which can all be connected to give a large Moonbase.
