Hello,
I really like the baseplate lists kept by moin99 on Brickshelf. There is a baseplate there listed as unknown50x50.jpg.

I have seen this baseplate myself and was quite sure it was not Lego. It has no Lego on the studs, and the studs themselves are rounded. I just discovered I was wrong. The plate is Lego.

I was doing some research about Gary Istok in the RTL archives. He posted on this very same baseplate:

I've never seen any other mention of that baseplate. Gary Istok is a well-noted Lego historian. I would trust this post as accurate. It looks like it was a limited release part from 1970.

There is no contact info for moin99 listed on BS. If one could forward this note, I would appreciate it.

Also, the blue suitcase set listed higher up in the same folder looks like a Samsonite case. I've seen several sets very like it - all in plastic suitcases (which Samsonite was known for making in the 1970's).
